Prewar train maker?

Howdy all Tim here again. I recently saw some prewar trains that I was not familliar with. They had what appeared to be cast bodies in the early electric loco style. I think the name of the brand started with the letter “D”. I also think they were made in New Jersey. Does anyone know what brand these were? Any info on these. They looked very interesting.

Thanks for any help.

Dorfan?

I’ve always enjoyed the various repros done by Pride Lines.

YES! that’s it! Cool. So someone made repros? how available are those?

That definitely sounds like Dorfan. They were made in New Jersey. They had a problem with impurities in their castings causing the bodies to crumble, sometimes just in a matter of years. Their trains ran better than everyone else’s and were far more durable than anyone else’s, until the zinc pest problems surfaced. Then the company fell hard and fast.
