Price Gouging Redux

It just occurred to me that when I bought my first issue in 1957, the cover price was 50 cents.

Using the CPI numbers I used in another post, the cover price of MR should be about $3.50. Instead, it’s $5.50.

And you think GAS is expensive???

Al Kalmbach must be turning over in his grave.

Not because he thinks the cover price is too much, but because he’s not around to laugh all the way to the bank. Nudge, nudge, wink, wink, as well as [swg]

Sheesh- you don’t think the greater use of color, or greater number of pages, or the increasesd production values might have anything to do with it?

Didn’t you catch the fact that I was pulling everybody’s leg as hard as I could?

Color was really rare back in the day. IIRC, there was a big whoop-de-doo about the 25th anniversary issue (January 1959) because it contained several pages of color photos.

I can’t speak for everybody, but I personally feel that MR is worth every penny I pay for it.

Then there’s the free stuff (like this forum). 'Course, it’s not really free, the cost is embedded in advertising and subscription revenues, but who’s complaining?

I couldn’t be sure- what with all the whining going on about our expensive hobby, and the CPI reference, the post just blended right in. My bad. Looks like even greater sarcasm/ irony might be needed 'cause my leg’s not as sensitive to pulling as it was once. Worn out and worn down by whiners, I guess.

Me, I’m a Trains and Classic Trains subscriber and I second your “worth every penny” claim.

Have fun!
