I would like to know why N scale cost as much as HO scale,In todays economy it’s hard to afford to buy new products. It takes a lot less plastic to make N scale than HO scale, plus most of it is made in china which means cheep labor cost.
Rather than start another rah-rah on this subject here, I suggest that you use the forum search function to research this question. I’m pretty sure that you’ll come up with multiple locked threads on this topic.
Don’t tell anyone but you N scale guys have been subsidizing us HO scale guys cars for years. Thanks eh.[:o)]
The cost of the plastic difference is almost nil. The labor and other associated costs remain the same, hence the narrow, if any price differenc.
Fair warning, and not prejudging you, but a first-time poster who poses this question to the forum is going to be looked at askance here. Just so you know. Our history works that way for this type of topic.
That said, the cost for tooling, manufacturing, testing, packaging, shipment, advertizing, etc, dwarfs the cost of materials. Even so, once all the development costs are factored, and the distribution, the material difference between the two scales is negligible. Also, the markets are still widely disparate. I won’t bet on it (cuz I don’t have any facts or figures to call on), but I think N scale as a market comprises about 50-60% of what HO’s market is. So, economies of scale also apply.
C’est tout.
This post is like deja vu…all over again. [%-)]
This is an unfortunate choice of topic for your first-ever post, Savoy. Sorry, but the whole “this hobby is so expensive” bit has been played out. Repeatedly, and to no resolution. So, welcome to your first-ever locked thread.
