I was thinking out loud and wondered what it costs for Nissan to ship loaded SUVs from their assembly plant in Alliston, Ontario via CP to Buffalo CSX Frontier Yard where it become Q293 and heads to Cicero Yard where it get shipped off somewhere by BNSF I believe.
What do you figure it costs to do that compared to shipping via Bi-level autoracks and split up and put into various manifest trains instead? What are the advantages to this?
Don’t even say I mentioned this, but have you considered logging onto nscorp dot com and acting like the potential shipper (customer) I know you must be?? (wink)
It isn’t a NS movement. Only CP and CSX take it as far as Chicago and the only reason why CP doesn’t take it to Chicago themselves is the unfortunate fact that the Windsor-Detroit tunnel has height restriction thus most of CP’s stack intermodal trains on that route are single stacked with only the smaller 40 foot containers being double stacked.
