Princeton Jct and Back (Dinky)

Accroding to my calculations, I believe the the PJ&B once had a full wye comming towards the Princeton Junction Station, in which the train had an option of going north into the main line or this time, south. Besides I wonder if there were, or was once special trains that ran straight to the Pinceton University station, i.e 1945 special “NYC to Princeton University station express” By this I mean in terms of not having to change trains when comming from NYC. This also means that a full lenght train will actually enter the “Dinky” line for the first time. Or a one car NYC to Princeton Express. I believe the Princeton branch connects to the main line via a 1 into 4 track flat junction, and a switch to enable the train to head south to the main line if it went reverse. A 3 year old can tell there were once 2 tracks near the Princeton University station at the grade crossing. I just don’t know how long ago they were removed. It would have been interesting if there was a one seat ride from NYC to Princeton or Trenton to Princeton via the additional wye.

I just went back and looked at my father’s pics of Princeton Jct in 1948. If there was a westbound connection, it was already long gone by 1948. His pictures show only the eastbound connection by then.

Interestingly, he has a shot of a 3 car MP54 train on the Princeton branch, and the lead MP54 is a combine car with room for baggage.

Forgive me for being a little [#offtopic] , but every time the shuttle shuttles it adds two train movements to NJT’s roster. A great statistics-booster!
