Privately operated high speed service set to begin in Italy

And I thought only government run passenger service was feasible… Keep up the good work VRE!

Note, Mr. Tallman, that another country’s government-owned railroad owns 20% of it. I imagine they’ll be responsible for operations. The article doesn’t say, but I assume this is running on the same tracks as Trenitalia’s trains.

Also, the article says privately operated. I don’t see anything that says who owns the other 80% of the capital investment (track, trains, etc.) I guess that’s fodder for a little bit of research.

Here you can see the shareholders of NTV.

About the tracks, yes, the trains will run on the same tracks on which all others’ trains runs. RFI(Rete Ferroviaria Italiana - Italian Rail network) S.p.A owns all the infrastructures.

(BTW: I’m Italian and living in Venice, Italy, not in Georgia… Where can I change that?)

@Ken Brown:
In Italy all trains runs over RFI tracks. RFI itself is part of the Ferrovie dello Stato S.p.A. group, the former Italian State carrier, which also owns Trenitalia that manages the trains.
RFI is known for trying to “discourage” other private groups (like NTV, Arenaways, even OBB and DB) from venturing on its tracks, despite being the only tracks. That’s the way it is…

About the price, it is said to be a little more expensive of the Trenitalia fare because the NTV train will be faster and more luxurious.

Would like to hear more about this. Will this run on the same tracks as Trenitalia and, if so, how does that work? They would probably match each others price, or would the level of service be different? I hope Trains does an article about this.
