i bought a bachmann dcc system, because i got caught up the whole dcc revolution deal.i still have a mess of analog trains.i have had a bad experience with my dcc system.i read the book hooked everything up right, and i thought i programmed the locomotive correctly, but it would make this electrical buzzing noise.the locomotive i used came dcc equipped, and is a bachmann brand bnsf 8-40.now i’m guessing that dcc equipped means everything is rtr?..i was suprised that the controller caused my decoder to blow, and the train was hot to the touch.i was pluged into standered outlet.i puzzeled to what would cause this.i’m a frist timer at the dcc deal,i have seen dcc hooked up to train at the hobby shops and it seemed kinda simple to do…can any experienced hobbiest help me out and give me some pointers on what i might have done wrong?..thanks
Nothing wrong withn the DCC system. If it’s a Bachmann DCC Onboard loco, the decoder is bad. If it’s another brand, the decoder may be set to DC only by use of a jumper. Also, the loco may be DCC ready. DCC ready means the loco is ready to have a decoder installed.
Cheerio,
If your Bachmann BNSF 8-40 is indeed DCC-equipped, the decoder must have blown. What road number do you have on the 8-40? Can you remove the shell and verify that it does have a decoder?
