HI. I recieived a new BLI Paragon2 DCC/Sound UP light mikado a couple days ago and got it out today to try out. The sound functions worked, but it didn’t move. I moved it and noticed it humming/vibrating a bit…seemed bound up. With some nudging it started to (with a fair amount of juice) move but lurch/hop and or stop, seeming bound up. I can’t see an obvious problem (e.g., the valve gear) but don’t much know what to look for. I’m certainly not going to tinker with it. I’m pretty sure it’s mechanical (e.g., not a CV) problem. I’m a little surprised to see a major problem with these nice locos. Do you suggest starting issue resolution with the retailer (MBKlein) or BLI?
Update: I talked with MBKlein and they said they would exchange it; sent me a UPS label and it’s already going back to them. It seemed that the motor was actually turning at times when the wheels would not, so they thought it is likely a problem with the geared parts. I noted that they had 11 UP DCC versions when I ordered 9 days ago and only 2 left, so I hope my flawed one was a rarity.
I would start with the retailer, by asking them for help or if they know why the engine is acting the way it does.
We get a lot of people complaining that a firearm the purchased from us does not work properly. The ones who are honest and tell us they did something, or can we help them figure what is wrong, get the best help. Those that start complaining right off the bat that the gun is no good, they want their money back, in my opinion do not get treated as well. I think it is human nature to help those that are polite and reasonable.

It seems like MBKlein is customer service oriented.
