Problem with DH165K1A decoder

Hi Guys

To give some back ground on my problem.I have had health issues for the last 3 years and my trains have been more or less sitting not being run.

It seems that almost all 15 locos have some kind of problem. Head lites that don’t work and such.

The other day I ran a Bachman GP30 with a DH165K1A and the sound didn’t work. Today I put it on the track and it won’t even respond. I have another loco close and the other loco responds.

Could it have lost it’s call ID? If so what can be done?

I appreciate any help

Lee

Lee,

what have you done the system after sitting for three years? Did you clean the track? How about the loco wheels? Three years of dust build up can be a source of the problem. at this point the system is saying there is some problem(s).

If you haven’t done the cleaning, do the track and one engine. I would work with that one engine until it runs reliably. The first thing would be to clean the wheels an electrical contacts. If that does not fix the problem, then you may need to do lubrication maintanence on the engine. Depending on where the layout is, that can cause lubrication issues. Another option at this point would be to reset the decoder. it may have been impacted by stray electronic signals during the idle time. Who knows why. You should have a better idea what to do first after the cleaning. If the unit runs smoothly, but certain decoder functions do not work, then the reset would come next.

Good luck,

Yes, I did clean the track a couple of times. I started a few weeks ago testing each engine and writing down how each one performed. There are some things that don’t respond on maybe half of the units. On the steamers its mostly the headlights.

Thanks for the suggestions.

After cleaning the locomotive wheels and power pickups, if things do not work try a decoder factory reset. This is a list for various manufacturers

Update

Just in case anyone is wondering, I went through the loco fleet and I have 6 with issues. Four just need working head lites. I dred taking them apart. The GP30 runs but still has no sound. I need to look into that factory reset.

The new problem is a 2-6-0 that is acting very werid. My Power Cab on throttle up only goes to step 28 but on this 2-6-0 goes to about step 30 before it starts to move and then the thorttle can go up to the 40s.

I’m going to have to work on this.

Thanks

I probably missed something but you mentioned that your GP30 with a DH165KIA decoder doesn’t have sound. That decoder is not a sound decoder unless you attached a SoundBug to it. Is this what you did? If so, I would check the connections between the decoder and the sound bug as a start.

Sorry Guys,

I haven’t felt like getting back to this right now. I came down with a cold which really takes the drive out of me.

Joe, I may have the decoder number wrong. I thought all my locos had sound except a 2-6-0 and a 4-4-0.

Anyone know why the steamer throttle acts that way? Did I signal the the decoder to change something?

[sigh] [|(] Just lying on the couch snorting and coughing.

Thanks.
