i recently purchased a bantam turbine 30-1241-1 with ps2. the first day i had it it ran fine. the second day all the problems started. when i power up the engine the whistle just started to blow steady and wont shut off until i shut the power off. i pulled the engine off the track and placed it on a seperate loop on my layout with the same problem but now when it runs its very sluggish and jerky, the whistle cuts in and out and the bell keeps ringing. as it runs around the track i get random sounds, bell, whistle, freight yard, chuffing all at the same time.
i tried other mth engine with ps1 i own and i have no problems on the track. this is my only engine with ps2. i do use lionel cw-80 transformers, will that effect the performance of the engines.
any help?
steve
Hello Steve:
[#welcome] Welcome to the forum. I am assuming that you are running the turbine in conventional mode is that correct?
Regards,
John
Steve,
The CW80 is the cause of the problems. It is known that PS2 locos have issues with the modified output of the CW80. Try a different transformer.
Steve:
You can do a search on this forum. I found a couple of threads that talked about this issue. Apparently, since the CW80 does not use a pure sine wave output to power the tracks, the MTH PS2 engines will not operate properly. Mr. Trumpie is correct, try another transformer.

[#welcome] Steve,
Jim is correct, you can not use a CW-80 with a PS-1 or PS-2 loco or it will go crazy!!! Use an MTH Z1000 or other transformer and you will be fine. Must have newer built-in circuit breaker for new locomotives.

Circuit breakers are intended to protect wiring, not locomotives. All postwar and later transformers that I know have built-in circuit breakers anyway.
