Processing LICHEN

How or what is the best way to process LICHEN???

This link http://www.pc-technology.com/user/railroad/tips/lichen/

has an excellent article on the topic by David Frary, the scenery expert. Basically it involves water, Rit dye, and glycerin to keep the lichen from getting brittle (which even old commercial lichen does, so the Frary ideas might also work to revive old stuff).

PS I just noticed that the internet article is actually an excerpt from Frary’s Kalmbach book on scenery, so the answer might already be resting on your shelf.

This was discussed previously here: http://cs.trains.com/forums/1446370/ShowPost.aspx

It may well have been posted previously, but as a newly joined member I am not privie to it ! Thanks for pointing that out Rotor.

Actually you are–just use the “search” function of the board.

Unless you need garbage bags full of the stuff, it’s a lot easier just to buy it from an art supply like Hobby Lobby. (A gallon of glycerin’s not cheap)

No problem…I just thought you’d like to read that too! [:D]
