Product video: MTH HO scale GS-4 steam locomotive
The Daylight locomotive is a great looking and running locomotive, but the whistle is totally wrong! The whistle sounds like a hooter (single chime) but in reality is a six chime. There are plenty recordings of the 4449 and how they got this hooter is beyond me. I called MTH about it and no one had an explanation as to how this happened.
I can’t wait to get mine…it’s on order now and expected the end of August.
I’m with Patrick Flynn, sure hope that the engine would lose that jumpy look whe “taking out the slack”, sure looks weird. Great looking model in HO.
Beautiful! Sounds great!
Sorry Folks, but I’m not impressed with ANY sound locomotives. It’s really difficult to get anything realistic to come out of 1.5" speakers… While this loco is most likely a fine, smooth running locomotive, the sound is still NOT impressive…
WOW! Very nice job. The sound is timing is correct with the rod strokes which i was amazed by. Cant wait till i get my N-scale Daylight with the same features!
MTH did an outstanding job in sound and detail on this loco. When not operating it I have it on display with the MTH O gauge and G gauge versions of the GS-4, and have ordered the Kato N scale version. As you can see I am a Daylight fan and know it well. Thanks MTH for another great job.
great engine smoke and all reminds me of the lionel o gauge steam engines i had 40 years ago
Pretty good. Could still use some fine tuning. I would give it a 6 out of 10.
Those of you who expect full-fidelity Dolby Digital 5.1 stereo out of an HO locomotive are expecting WAY too much. It’s “scaled” sound like the “scale” locomotive. It’s like putting up a Norman Rockwell background on your rinky-dink layout…overkill. Once you get past the difference-in-scale thing, you can enjoy model railroading again.
I liked the sound, but did I hear a voice at the end? What was that all about? And I’m still not sure about the whole smoke idea. All in all, though, a very nice engine that I just might consider adding to my line.
Very nice model and a great sound. Well done
MTH DAYLIGHT IS AN AWESOME MACHINE.
Returning to HO after “years” of absense. Modeling 1890 to 1930. Sorry. Looks fine; the sound is, I, suppose correct. I need help in this area of my modeling.
Really cool sounding. I like steam and have the UP 4005 Big Boy, 3985 Challenger and the 844 Northern. As you can tell I’m UP all the way but enjoy all steam engines. Job well done.
I believe that first “whistle” blast was supposed to be the single-note “blat” air horn that the GS’s had. And watching that engine move when “taking out the slack,” makes me ask how many drawbars were yanked out? I’m sure the slow speed will improve after breaking in. Overall, a very nice looking model, mush better than I had expected by reading reviews on the net. But I’m stuck in a 1971 time frame.
i saw them at national train show in anaheim ca and wow what great detail and good looks, broadway limited and precision craft watch out there is a new sheriff in town
I guess the ones that critisize the sound, wished they had this engine and sound. good job!
That is one super model. I hope to own one.
