I ran my Big Boy yesterday, for the first time, it’s has a TCI decoder, and its on factory set 3, its a sound decoder, the sounds are sensational now, my system is a Digitrax Zepher 50, but I would like to program it to its own cab address (4012), I have never own a Steam loco before, so Iam hoping this won’t hurt the sound decoder, tell me your experience.
My suggestion would be to read and review your Zephyr manual on how to program your Big Boy to address 4012. You can use either programming track mode (easier)…or enter the proper number in CV17 (more involved).
Programming the 4-digit address is the same whether it’s a diesel or steam locomotive.
A decoder is a decoder, doesn’t matter if it has steam sounds, diesel sounds, or no sounds. The same method to set the address that you have used for all the others should work just fine.
