Programming ESU Loksound v5 Lighting

I’ve installed ESU Loksound v5 decoder 58823. I’m using a NCE PowerCab. Problem: the forward headlight (white wire) flashes vs. ON/OFF. I’ve set CV32 = 0, CV113 = 15. Nothing changes. I’ve tried setting CV32 = 1 or 2, makes no difference. I’ve tried setting CV113 = 63 (strobe light) or 79 (double strobe) and back to 15. Nothing changes. HELP!

V5 is a couple of orders of magnitude more difficult to understand that v4. In some ESU loksound forums there are complaints that the English translation is not quite up to snuff.

In the manual I downloaded from the ESU site CV 113 is identified as the Power Fail Bypass. Not sure what that means, but I don’t think it has to do with the headlight.

One of us is way off the mark. Where are you reading about CV 113?

As I read the instructions (from the top manual, this page http://www.esu.eu/en/downloads/instruction-manuals/digital-decoders/ ) starting on page 79

CV31 = 16 CV32 = 0

It would be interesting to know what CV259 reads before you write to it.

Then CV 259 should be set to 1 or 2 depending on if you want fade in/out.

I can’t print out the manual to see the both pages together. This is an additive CV and you need to add 4 for Rule 17, 8 for Rule 17 Reverse + 16 for dimmer + 128 for LED to the 1 or 2 above.

ESU decoders are best programmed using their LokProgrammer and its software, or DecoderPro. The LokProgramer’s advantage is that it is much faster.

There are so many options available that trying to do it manually is difficult, at best.

There is also a firmware issue with the Pro Cab, which causes problems, but you will not have that issue with the Power Cab.

CV32 is one of the index CVs. There is a process for changing them.

DecoderPro will handle the v5 LokSounds easily, as will the LokProgrammer. DecoderPro also knows how to handle the NCE firmware bug.

I have a powercab but I had not heard of the Pro Cab issue, what is it?

ProCab cannot write CVs > 255 without corrupting the decoder. PowerCab has no problem with this.
