Projects Finished.

Hi everyone, How was your weekend. I have been pretty busy with repairing, rebuilding or building rolling stock kits.

I have caried out repairs on a Bachmann 40 Foot Box Car. Rock 57025. It needed its coupler replaced. I also had to fix a Walthers 40 Foot Plug Door Box Car Track Cleaning Car. UP 113803. It needed completely new coupler boxes. and Couplers adjusted.

I have Completed the following Rebuilds. An Athearn 50 Foot Exterior Post Plug Door Box Car ATSF 520976 and an Athearn 50 Double Door Auto Box Car UP 300620. On these I performed some detail upgrades. Minor Repairs. and Tuned Couplers and trucks.

Then I have built the flollowing Cars. An Athearn 40 Foot Hi-Cube Box Car UP 518108 and An Athearn 50 Foot Double Door Auto Box Car UP 300625.

Then I have rebuilt and repainted a Bachmann 50 Foot Plug Door Box Car. It was formerly a Train Set quality Half lettered On Bare plastic Erie Lakawanna car. It is now painted as Great Northern 36904 in Big Sky Blue. Has been rebuilt with Kadee Couplers and Kato S-2 Roller Bearing Trucks. (With rotating end caps). I can coment that the kato trucks are very nice and the end caps are just plain cool.

Well thats what I have been up to. I will post pics when I get film developed.

Have fun everyone.

James

Hello Blue Sky,

Good to read of your progress. I’ve got a bunch of Athearn BB boxcars that I originally thought about selling, but I’ve decided to keep them and add some detailing to them. Even though the door guide rails are slightly oversized, I’ve always like Athearn’s 50ft. Sliding Door box cars.

Your post makes the idea even more encouraging. Since I’m modeling the late 1960s and early 70s I’m removing the roofwalks, plugging the holes in and paint-matching them to the roof. The slight downside to this are those pesky “molded on” end ladders that need to be chiseled off. I’ll cross that bridge when I get there or may decide that I can live with them as is.

BTW: Are things o.k at your railroad job?

Hey Antonio,

Things are going great with Rail Link. I have been there almost 6 months and I am already the second most experienced operator on my crew. And at the rate promotions are taking place In another 18 months I could be a crew leader. However Im not sure if I want that job. Its super stressful.
