Proper Orientation of the Target on a Switch Stand?

I just bought several Tomar non-illuminated switch stands NS-89 I believe. The directions are not clear on the orientation of the red target. My guess is when the switch is closed the red target would be turned sideways or parallel to the straight thru track and if the switch is thrown the red target would turn and be perpendicular to the track giving the engineer a clear view of the target? Any help or info would be greatly appreciated.

Merry Christmas to everyone!

Correct. Except on secondary trackage, the taget would be yellow.

Well maybe. The white target should face the train, indicating the switch is set for the main line or through track. The red should show the switch is set to go off the the main line. In other words, if the switch uses the curved section for the main line then white should show for the engineer to see when the switch is set for the curved section. Ken

The approaching train should see “green” when the switch is lined for the normal route.

The approaching train should see “red” (on main track) if the switch is lined for the opposing route. Yellow, if on other-than-main track.
