i read some where that an HO scale car should weigh 3ounces plus 1 ounce for every 2 inches of length-- is this correct beacause i need to weight down some cars
The National Model Railroad Association (NMRA) recommended weight for HO scale is 1 ounce, plus an additional 1/2 ounce for each inch of car length. A 5-inch long car should thus weigh 1 ounce plus 2-1/2 ounces, or 3-1/2 ounces total.
If you need weight recommendations for a scale other than HO, you can download the data from the NMRA web site.
The NMRA recommended weigth is good for a start. I find with metal wheelsets and free rolling trucks a little less weight will work fine. Keep the added weight as low as possilbe in the car.

Check back on this forum on this exact subject, it was posted not too long ago, and there were some surprising answers (and a lot of responses) to the weight question, you may be surprised, I was.
Cacole is bang on, MR put out an article on this during the summer and I beleive MRC put one out last issue or the one before.
I just weigh them down enough so they dont hop.
