Proposed Amtrak facility causes stir in Maine
NIMBYS struck again!!
Of what use will this proposed facility be if and when service is extended beyond Brunswick to Agusta, Waterville or even Bangor?
NIMBYs usually are full of unfounded fears and misguided members and spokespeople. Here we are again. The funny thing is that Brunswick just had the local air base closed where the sounds of fighter and cargo jets pierced the ears and air of the locality especially annoying during practice weekends and weeks. The sound of “trains” at peak hours is assuming a mass transit operation with many trains when there will probably be only one trainset in operation at any given hour or movement. Hysterically ignorant, these NIMBY’s. And forgetful.
Memories are short as there was much train activity here in the 1950’s.
If you don’t like the noise, don’t live near the tracks.

Let them live near an Airport that has commerical flights using Airbus/Boeing airframe. They may keep quiet because of living in the “JET” age.

The usual stereotypes about the British, who invented the steam engine and began the modern industrial world, so no, you would not still be riding horses, in fact would probably have nation wide intensive train service to this day! And like Canada and Australia would have been dominions and would have your own national anthem. But yes, the Queen would be the titular, zero power, head of state, just as George III was subservient to parliament. IF the American States had wanted to stay in the Commonwealth.

Further to my previous comment: I doubt it is rocket science to put 2+2 together and know that if you buy a house NEXT to an airport/highway/barge canal/commercial seaport/railroad tracks or rail yard (present or dormant) that there is the possibility of NOISE. DUH…
Forget Brunswick! Continue north through Augusta and Waterville to Bangor and park park overnight in the Bangor Station train shed. Oh wait that facility was hit with a wrecker ball in the sixties and turned into a parking lot. Think that was what Sonny and Cher were lamenting in the song. Seriously. RIght now get service to Augusta and waterville going and build train storage facility in Waterville,
The NIMBY’s probably get more noise from people riding motorcycles past their homes than they would from trains shut down for the night in an enclosed shelter. Get a life.
