May be the Europeans are on to something. Should be required reading for both the Republicans in Congress and in the States and the Democrats running the FRA
Imagine a 90 minute trip from Boston to NYC and a bit longer from NYC to DC. Could easily be done if the monies invested in air were instead imvestsd in rail. Never will happen, tho.
As a slightly cynical European I wouldn’t hold my breath waiting for this to happen. Both countries economies are in a poor way and there is a long history of rail projects in italy going well over budget an timescales. The project has been in development for many years and I hope that it goes forward but it doesn’t sound as if the money is there at the moment.
Again, the map says it all!
@James Guest: Actually, a project like this might give both countries an economic boost while construction lasts. Probably there will be snags. BTW, for comparison, how did the Chunnel construction go? Got that high-speed London-Tunnel line built yet? For getting the job done, the odds are on France and Italy vs. the US or GB.
Is the cost really expressed in dollars or should it have been euros?
