Protecting Accessories from Power Surges

Good evening. I would appreciate anyone’s help in protecting accessories from power surges. Specifically, I have a Lionel Backshop (sorry, I know these are a very sore subject) that I am trying to protect. I know I read a recent article on this in one of the ‘O’ gauge magazines but I can’t seem to find it. Thanks! Jim

As I understand it, one uses fuses or circuit breakers to protect against excessive current (is that what you mean by “power surges”?) and TVS diodes to protect against voltage spikes which can damage electronic components.

I don’t know what is inside a Lionel Backshop, but you might need either or both.

“Lionelsoni” (Bob Nelson) seems to be the guru on this subject on this forum. Try doing a search to access his large body of work.
