Protestors arrested after trying to stop coal train in Montana

Climate change is real. However putting a crew at risk, and trespassing isn’t the way to solve an issue.

They could have protested coal exports as nearly giving away our resources to hostile nations.

Give China all the coal. We can not do anything with it here anymore.

Hippies???

Let’s hope all the protesters walked to the demonstration site, or perhaps they rode out in their horse and buggies…

…I get a little annoyed with these " EARTH PEOPLE "…as long as we use gas guzzling vehicles we are contributing to warming…nothing wrong with recycling though.Often wonder how some of these people arrived to pick up their welfare check ,likely by gas guzzler…

How misguided. CO2 is up and yet global temperatures are cooling. The climate models predicting continued warming have failed. And the American Meteorological Society surveyed its members and found only 52% believe in global warming, not the 97% reported in the media.

The AMS survey states that only 59% of respondents believe “human activity” caused global warming, still far from the 97% usually quoted and certainly not a settled issue.

Protesters charged with disorderly conduct. A media liaison with a supporting group had the sense to inform police and the railroad what was going down so fortunately this didn’t turn into a tragedy.

What an ignorant lot these environmentalist"whackos" are.

I might have some respect for these yahoos if they lived lived totally off the grid, not using any electricity generated by coal or other fossil fuel. They would have screaming fits if you proposed replacing coal plants with nuclear, my personal favorite.

It would be nice if those hippies “Tripped and fell” while being taken away, knowhuddimean? I wonder if any of those fleabags actually do anything for a living?

I just saved 15% on car insurance…

I agree with Matt.

Besides there is only one thing worse that those who hold signs; those who cannot understand or follow them! Such as, “Please keep your feedback thoughtful, on-topic and respectful. Offensive language, personal attacks, or irrelevant comments will be deleted. And as we are now discovering…so will the people.

I agree with Al on everything.

Ok, they trespassed, and they’re going to be punished for that. Why does that mean that they need to be run over James? And no, I don’t ‘knowhatyoumean’ John, are you implying that these people aren’t entitled to due process?

Some of you “Americans” have a pretty shallow understanding of free speech and the justice system. These people have a right to their [scientifically supported] opinions, just like you all have a right to get on here and call a bunch of people that you’ve never met ignorant morons. These people also took their protest too far and so they were arrested, but I doubt the death penalty is called for in this case.

Those hippies have sealed their fates. Idiots.

Contrary to what an earlier poster said, a survey of members on the American Meteorological Society website said “A very large majority of respondents (89%) indicated that global warming is happening; in contrast few indicated it isn’t happening (4%), or that they “don’t know” (7%).”

There was also a letter from AMS to correct some of the misinformation about the survey in popular media:

They’re all for free speech unless you disagree with man-made global warming. I still want to know what gas-guzzling SUV the cavemen drove to end the last ice age.

It is hubris to believe man has that much affect on the environment. Can we help, maybe, a little. If they have problems with coal, let’s build some other power plants. Solar isn’t ready for prime-time and hydro might drown some species no one has heard of before, and the wind doesn’t blow every day. Fossil fuels are still the cheapest, but won’t make them happy. I guess that leaves nuclear, and the overriding question of who will pay for these new plants.
