Proto 1000 F3 A+B Noise!

Hi guys, I’ve recently bought (new) a Proto 1000 F3A+B unit (both powered) When running these units there is quite a noticable noise at times that sounds like gear backlash. Both units do it. I have stripped the model down and added a litle lubrication to the gears, motor and axles. This has made no difference at all. Now I’m thinking it maybe a vibration from the elecrtical pick-ups that sit over the axle bearings?
Can any one help? I can’t take the model back as I have already modified it with close fitting KD’s.

Jim.

I have four sets of these. For the money, obviously
they are not a smooth running quite loco. I get a distinct rubbing noise(like it was braking) on a curve in a couple of the units.

Like like offers a limited warranty. Give them a call on their 1-800-638-1470. They are very accommodating.

I am surprised to read this because my impression has been that Proto 1000 engines ran rather well.

It’s a forty dollar set out of trainworld.
I can’t complain and they do have great speed.

I was also able to install the B unit chassis in a Athearn reefer(nice fit) and cut it 2/3 in my 15-18 car steam run.

no thats proto 2000 , every engine that i got of a proto 2000 , runs nicely

OK
What LifeLike seems to claim is that Proto 1000 has the power chassis of Proto 2000 without the added details that change with the prototype.
So I guess you are telling me that maybe I misunderstood or the claim is excessive (or that maybe Proto 2000 is variable in quality too?).
