That’s puzzling…I didn’t bite on the second offering of these engines due to Athearn Genesis releases that will be announced later this summer…but the original Trainline GP15-1’s were good pullers, IMHO.

My guess is that they are geared higher, weigh less, and probably slip considerably…but that’s without knowing what your gradient is on your incline…I have seen these engines up close and they are the basic trainline shell on a new drive…with thinner handrails.

I, too have the original 15-1 and it is a excellent hauler. From the photos, only change I can see is the handrails. Hopefully the replaced the brass wheels.

I like them, but I now know about the problems, but still, I like them…

I own a CSX virson and often pull strings of ten or more cars on level track… I’m not aware of any pulling problems, but on a real railroad I model (St. Lawrance and Atlantic) has leased three in the past few years for swiching industrys and complained about lack of pulling power. A thoght that I have is to check the drive lines to the trucks. Mine once poped off with no explenation as to why.
