Proto 1000 Milwaukee Road C-liner/Different color scheme?

First post on the forum, so I hope this is the right place to ask, if not I’m sure someone will let me know!!

After searching this sight as well as the net without much luck, I’d like to know some info on the Proto 1000 series. First off I have a Milw Road RSC-2 proto 1000 which I purchased a few months ago and it is very nice. There is a proto 1000 milw road C-liner on ebay right now for sale, but for the life of me I can’t find out when they released these models. The current asking price is ~$44, so it doesn’t seem like a bad deal, as the RSC-2 was $60. In searching for this I’ve seen a few different color schemes. I am a fan of the ebay model, Item number: 130272345128 if anyone is interested in looking. I’ve checked on the Walthers website, but their search tool is a bear.

Anyone have this particular loco?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Jason

This is a Walthers entry for one of these:

The original price is about $75, but they seem to be sold out of all the models in HO. I’ve got a Proto 1K RS unit myself (RSC-3, I think, Milwaukee #992) and it’s been a solid, reliable engine since it came out of the box.

The Walthers search engine works best when you use a lot of terms, to constrain the search. A manufacturer’s name helps, and a model number will take you right to the item. If you look closely at all the stuff that comes up, you’ll see that they’ve got two groups, both in alphabetical order. The first group matches all of the search words, and the second group matches just some of the search words. To find this, I entered “proto c-liner” in the search box. Odd, though, that it didn’t come up with this particular road number.

So, welcome aboard, and let us know how your hunt goes.

There is a box on the advanced search that reads “include discontinued out of stock products” Make sure that one is checked.

Wow, thanks for the heads up regarding the Walthers site, usually more info is bad for search engines.

Since posting I’ve come up with another spin off on this question. When I linked to the Walthers site it shows a certain color scheme, as opposed to this(I’m going to try and copy a photo). What is the difference between these, why the different colors? What am I missing here? They are both Proto 1000 locos, the only diff is the road number.

You could be right Packer, maybe one is for passenger and the other freight.

I think the maroon stripe is for passenger units. I don’t know much about milwuakee road so I may be wrong.

I think this loco is from the first run, when Life-Like had Proto: http://www.walthers.com/exec/productinfo/433-23985

I have this loco (in a different number), and it runs very well. Here it is with an Erie-Built:

Proto FMs

Trainworld used to sell them cheap; not sure if they have them anymore.

As far as the color scheme, all the Milwaukee Road C-liners were freight locos; they simplified the color scheme over time.

The Milwaukee Road FM C-Liners are ‘freight engines’. The engines with the maroon stripe are in the original ‘delivery’ paint scheme. The solid orange/black was repaints in the early 60’s. They were gone by the end of the 60’s.

Thanks for the info guys. I have only 1 Milw Rd loco and need to add to the fleet! I definately like the maroon stripe loco vs the black and orange.
