Proto 1000 RS2 Problem

I have a proto 1000 RS2 from several yrs ago that has developed a problem and I can’t figure how to get the body off to look at the motor and gears. Can anyone help me out? Thanks in advance

What is the problem? You may need only to remove the plate from the bottom of the trucks if it is a gear problem. A little more info will bring more help.

I just looked at mine. I believe you can pull off the body after you remove the couplers. Try it and let us know how it works.

The loco just sits on the track and hums and does not move. I want to check everything, motor gears etc. While I’m in there do I need to do a lube job?

Remove the couplers and look for screws in the underframe (leave the 4 screws in the fuel tank) to remove the shell.

Take the entire loco apart, including the trucks. Put ALL the gears and universals in a tupperware container/lid. Add soap and water…shake to clean. Then scrub them in the soap water with a stiff brush. Reassemble and lube lightly with a plastic compatable lube.
