What is the part number for Athearn replacement gears that fit the Proto 2000 GP9s when the original crack. Has Walthers corrected this problem and do they have replacements for them that do not crack again. Which is best. Walthers replacements or Athearn. Thanks
Basically, they’re the same part. Walthers has been sending them for the asking, no questions asked, no charge.
Telephone Walthers, explain what you’ve got, and they’ll send you a free set of gears.
If you really want to use Athearn gears, they are part number 60024, but you’ll have to buy them.
I had the same problem and I E-mailed Walthers and got and answer in the next day or two . They E-mailed and ask how many I needed and where to ship them. Within a week I had my replacement parts and had my BL-2’s back in service. You can’t ask for better service than that and these were old Lifelike engines! Jim

And I got a dozen axles. I bought 2 GP-18s at an estate sale, both had broken axles. I thought I had to order new power trucks ,so I did. When they arrived ,they also had broken axles. I called Walthers and told them my sad tale and they fixed me up with a dozen axles. Now if one could just find his way around the catalog site.
