I am curious as to whether or not the shell from an older blue box Proto 2000 E6A would fit the chassis of one of the newer sound equipped E6A’s that they offer? If anyone has any knowledge regarding this or has one of each type to try it would be appreciated. I have an older FEC non-sound that I would like to run with sound and getting the new chassis seems to be the most cost effective route. Thanks…
Not sure of the E6A , but i looked hard at the E8A and found that the older shell had clearence for the opening doors on the shell and frame. The old shell was tight and the older doors would have to be removed and modified to fit a new sound frame.
The older model had light bulbs , the newer sound unit uses LED’s. They may need modification to line up with new shell.
Bob is correct, the doors will need to be modified to fit on a new drive, but if you want to add sound to the older chassis dont forget to put a piece of electrical tape under the motor so it doesnt short out and dont use the existing factory board even if it has a dcc socket (trust me on this one)
Joe, I have done it back wards. I have a PK 2000 E-7 with sound and needed a shell. I have 2 PK 2000 E-6’s, one the doors open and one where the doors do not open. Shell that doors do not open will fit my E-7, open door shell will not. Both came in a Blue Box.
