I am considering the purchase of a PROTO 2000 Diesel EMD E8/9A - Powered w/Sound & DCC.
I already own several P2K diesel engines but none that come with factory equipped sound and DCC.
Does anyone have any opinions or comments regarding the reliability of the DCC decoder and the reliability and accuracy of the sound feature?
It should have a QSI sound system, the same as all of the other P2K offerings with sound.
If you’ve ever heard a Broadway Limited model with sound, or the Lionel HO scale Challenger, they also use the QSI system.
Ahhh, very interesting. I was not aware of the fact that P2K uses the QSI sound system.

I have the non sound units and 3 SD50s which run and pull fantastic. My BLI E7 runs decent but I have been having decoder problems and have had to remove the shell and reset the jumper a few times.
The P2K w/ QSI soung should be a better unit overall.
Turn the sound off and take a good listen to a BLI drive, most aren’t that smooth and quiet. But who runs them silent anyway.
