So I did some work to my model, when I put it back together I realized I lost my fan grille cover. I already called Walthers and spoke with the parts dept. with no luck. Any ideas? Do they even have anything like that in brass? Any help would be appreciated.
Why would Athearn have one? They have never made an FA or B.
I misplaced one awhile back and I ended up turning it into a repowered EMD loco. I made a round disc to fit the hole and installed 2 Detail Associates EMD exhaust stacks.
This is a sad situation as Life-Like always carried a good parts supply for their Proto line and at very reasonable prices as well. It was bad enough when Walthers jacked up the prices of the parts but now they aren’t even bothering to carry them?
Looks to me as if it’s time to start keeping an eye out for junkers at the train shows to use for parts as Walthers is obviously no help here.
As I remember Bachmann operated this way for awhile before someone decided that having parts available was not only profitable but also makes there products more popular. Thumbs up to Bachmann for having the good sense to have a “parts department”.
And of course Atlas and Kato have always had their parts available, maybe that’s just “one” reason their products sell so well.
I’m still continuing to purchase older run P2K locomotives on ebay. I often find them still “new-in-the-box”. However, now when I go to train shows I keep an eye out for damaged LL junkers too for use as “parts supplies”.
A friend of mine brought a Proto FA by today so I was able check things out. While the brass grill is the correct size, the Proto grill includes the base of the grill, all one part. To use the DA grill you would have to fabricate a new base (collar) to mount the brass grill to. If you still want the grill, send me a note.
