Anyone replaced the coupler boxes on a Life Like Proto 2000 Geep with Kadee #5 boxes or another coupler box?
I have a locomotive where the draft gear/ Coupler Boxes/Lids and Screws are missing.

Hello All,
Yes, I have!
Hope this helps.
Thank you for sharing the experience.
Hello All,
I prefer the venerable Kadee #5 coupler with the accompanying #242 Snap-Together Insulated Gearbox & Lid.
The coupler boxes don’t have the mounting ears of the #232, so the #242 slips into the coupler pockets.
The #262, Whisker Coupler Narrow Snap-Together Gearboxes & Lid is a great solution in tight spaces.
You will need to use the Whisker type couplers, which are available in the same variations as the #5 series.
For mounting the couplers, I prefer the #256 Insulated Nylon 2-56 x 1/2in Screws.
These can easily be trimmed to length with a flush cutter or hobby knife.
Tip: thread a 2-56 nut below the cut and use it as a die to reestablish the threads when removing.
I also recommend getting a #206 HO Insulated Multi-Purpose Coupler Height Gauge.
This will tell you if you need to use a coupler with different heights.
Check out their webpage and Digital Catalog.
Hope this helps.
