[:(]Having a problem converting SD-9 Proto 2000 engines so the lights will work. Have installed DH 123 decoders, programed to specs, using NMR plug. Engine runs fine, activated remote throttle for light use. Changed bulbs to 12volt, used same connection points on light board that original lights were connected to, tryed a 2nd DH-123 same results. Has anyone experience this problem, any solutions. Thanks
Download a copy of the Digitrax Mobile Decoder User Manual from their web site and make sure your lights are wired in accordance with the schematics on page 17. I have the year 2000 edition, so the page number may be different.
I have no experience with the Proto 2000 SD-9, but I have put decoders into several other Proto 2000 models. Most of them required resistors when using the P2K bulbs, but since you’ve changed the bulbs in yours, no resistors should be necessary.
Make sure you have both front and rear lights connected to the Blue (+) wire on one side, and Yellow (-) for the rear light and White (-) for the headlight on their other leads.
Then make sure you have the decoder’s light function (FL) turned on.
If it’s the older SD9 with the large circuit board and just a small dummy plug int he 8-pin connector, there are also traces which need to be cut to plug a decoder in. These should be marked on the board or mentioned in the instructions. I converted an older one like this and just completely removed the circuit board and wired the decoder in. The circuit board was pretty strange as far as how it was wired, so I found it best to just remove it altogether.
Another case of ‘DCC Ready’ meaning “Well, you can kind of plug a decoder in, after you x, y, and z”

Thanks cacole, I’ll check that out ,need to get back to yard work first,
rrinker, thanks for your response, it is an older proto 2000 model. I may have to hard wire it.
