I don’t know what the general opinion of proto 2000 ALCo’s are, but here is my review of a freshly painted (why it’s so clean) Proto 2000 S3.

Interesting video.
The rear headlight problem was easy for me to solve simply by putting a 3mm sunny white LED in place of the lense. It is an almost perfect fit. However, I am using DCC so I have a constant voltage to the LED. You are apparently using DC and I haven’t a clue as to how to wire an LED to work properly in DC. Perhaps others with that knowledge will contribute.
As for the top speed, I would point out that it IS a switcher which by definition suggests slow speeds. You do note that it does have great slow speed capability.
With regard to the cab not quite fitting back on the body, I would suggest a look at where the cab interior molding is sitting, and whether or not the windows are tight against the cab walls. That whole assembly has to fit together properly before the cab will go back on all the way. Yes, it is fussy, but one thing you should remember is that the assembly should pop together easily. If you are having to force it to fit then something is out of place.
