proto 2000

Where can I get proto 2000 gp18 axle gear replacements without paying more for the shipping than the axles?

Find a LHS in your area that will order them for you. Let’s face it, they are quite inexpensive. BTW, the Athearn sets are a perfect match…

Jim

Buy them online and buy other stuff from the same seller to share the shipping costs.

Well my lhs called me back today $4.98 a bag. That I can do, I need 6 bags. But everywhere I went online 10 bucks to ship. That is what kills me, I can ship a flat rate medium box priorty for 10.95 where do they think it costs 10 dollars to ship 6 bags of plastic parts? Thanks for the BTW. I have never had to replace any till yesterday. I own a NMRA gauge to set the wheels. Best regards, mike

Well Mike, it seems that there must be more to your story than what you are sharing.

WHY, is there a need for six bags of them? Was your layout in a tsunami?

Johnboy out…

I replaced my GP-9 axles. I think the replacements came 4 to a bag. I ordered enough for both of my geeps, even though only one had the problem. I eventually replaced the axles in the other one, too.

I order all my small stuff, and most of my large stuff as well, through my LHS rather than ordering direct. It’s generally cheaper to pay the sales tax on small items than the shipping. I just heard this morning on the radio that my state of Taxachusetts is moving to require sales tax collection for online orders coming into the state. As much as I hate the concept, it does help to level the playing field and give the LHS more of a chance to compete.

I have several proto locomotives that jump like rabbits!

one store owner that I deal with tells me its a game different companys play, some sell the product at cost and make there profit on shipping. Others try to make profit on the product and give the shipping at cost. You have to really look at the entire cost. Product + shipping to know the real cost. One cannot base their purchase on just shipping or just the product.

Mike, I use Athearn gears and they are 6 in a bag. How may sick PK’s do you have anyway?
