proto 2000

Hello we are Army and have just moved to a new house and during the move I had a Proto 2000 0-8-0 from the first run when Life Like still made them, break and Walthers does not have any parts for them

I have looked on Ebay for some months now and nothing has showed up on there so I could take the parts from it and fix the on I have. So I was wondering if any body have any that they would like to sell so I could fix the one I have?

Here are the parts.

You are fairly new here so I will give you a few rules hints:

1} it is not permitted to buy or sell stuff here on this site.

2} If someone has something to donate to your cause free of charge, they can send you a Private Message via the “start conversation” link at the bottom right of the posting.

3} If you are army, you may move again. Wrap your locos in tissue paper then secure in bubble wrap to help protect them when moving OR purchase ready-made model RR storage containers lined with foam. again wrap a tissue around them then insert into foam slot so the foam may not deteriorate al over you trains if you don’t get to them for awhile.I am assuming it was damaged in transport.

4} you show blurry pics of running gear…are you saying you need the WHOLE running gear assembly minus motor or just a part {say a side rod} on it? It is unclear what you are looking for.

5} If it is a proto 2000, check with Walthers or the manufacturer to see if they may have something to help you with. You don’t mention that you have, so I assume you didn’t. You never know they may just have what you need! Or can possibly replace it with something comparable.

Good luck finding what you need!

ok thanks for that. I have been on the form for a year now and have never had a promble with asking for parts. But any ways I would need everything in the picture, all the running gear,I checked with WAlthers and they want $80.00 to $90.00 for that part.

When you move like we have you get use to have broken train, thr movers dont care what they are moveing. They are just puting in a box and move it.

It was in the orginal box and and then a nother box was put on it.

And these ?Movers, aren’t held responsible for destroying your stuff??? Movers wrecked my stuff and their insurance paid to refinish a dresser, headboard and replace a lost set of touring wheels for my $$$ Motobecane 10 speed.

If I was moving, those movers wouldn’t be touching anything train related until I had it packed and boxed, ready to go. And those boxes better be Marked “Fragile” Handl;e w/ care (Or Else!!!)

try hobbycraft canada they are lifelike also they might have parts still. rambo1…

I have been there when the Army moves you. When they moved me from Germany to Fort Knox they broke all my beer steins and customs tor through all my stuff and confiscated a hand forged broad sword that I made in black smith class and 30 albums of German rock bands that I had seen in concerts. I never got reimbursed for anything. It was determined that the customs agents unpacked and repacked the stuff that broke.

For all the parts you are needing perhaps an Ebay deal on a like locomotive or even the same thing will pop up. I have seen some of the 0-8-0 P2K locos go for under $100. It was just a few weeks ago that a 0-8-0 with sound and DCC went for under $200. You do not have to get the exact same loco. If you find one in another road name just swap tender shells and cab.

I applaud you for trying to repair it. Most new modelers would trash it and buy another. I fear that after you spend the time acquiring all the pieces and re-assembling it it would probably cost as much as an Ebay purchase. These are finicky little monsters and if there is any kind of problem with the linkage or valve gear then it will not run very good.

Thank you for your service.

Pete
