I just picked up 2 Proto 2000 FA-1’s and I’m very impressed with them. I want to install a Digitrax DH163P decoder in both of these and I’m not sure if they have resistors built into them like the DH163L0 decoders. Has anybody here put this decoder in this loco? If so, do I need resistors for the lights?
I think all of the 163’s are electronically the same the only diff is the way they attach to the loco. I am thinking the headlight and rear light are low voltage but the func outputs voltage is 12 volts so you would need a resistor for them.
I just put sound in my two FA/B1’s. Plenty of room for speakers and a DSX decoder. They sound great. As I am not 100% sure about the voltage this response is totally useless to you, sorry[:(] But if you decide to put sound in them then I can help. I have put sound in six F units to date. They are so much easier then the Geeps because of all the room available.

With the DH163P you need to add resistors, with the DH163L0 you do not add resistors.
