Proto GP38-2 body removal

How does the body come off of the P2K GP38-2’s? I just bought one and I just can’t seem to get the thing to come off of the chassis. I don’t want to force anything and wind up breaking something.

It’s held on by very tiny screws, no tabs. Look under, just beside the fuel tank. You should see two (one on each end) tiny phillips screws. Remove the coupler pockets and these two screws and see what happens.

I GOT IT, YAHOOOOO. There is one screw under each truck close to the fuel tank. Just slightly turn the trucks and you will see them. I installed the decoder, moved the number board light wires like your suppose to and she runs perfect. Very sweet looking loco.

Is it the same for P2Ks SD45?

There is a screw under the trucks so probably. I’ve got 2 of them but I haven’t tried yet.

I have been thinking about the p2K GP38-2 as my first new engine in 16 years…(Just got back into the hobby after School, college, job, house) What is your opinion of it?? I’ve looked at a couple in my LHS and Ive been impressed with the detail.

Yep the SD45 is similar. Mind you I didn’t bother to put both screws back in on the '45 as the coupler screws hold it on enough for me…

Well I personally like them because as you said they are very nicely detailed. They also will pull a ton of cars, will handle a sharp radius and installing the decoder is as simple as can be minus rewiring the number lights.
