Proto Heritage 2-8-8-2 A Question

Hi There;

I found this loco on ebay brand new in the box with DCC & sound for US $135.00 Seems like a very good price to me. My question is how good is this loco. Anyone have any expieriense with it ?

Thanx in advance; Tom

At that price, I’d certainly read the description very, very carefully to insure that there’s no major problem with the locomotive, and also determine the seller’s rank.

Hi There;

As I said this item is brand new in box. Seller has excellent feedback.He has 4 or 5 different roadnames on ebay now. My question is how good are these locos?

Tom

I don’t own one, but Proto 2000 Heritage locomotives are well known as excellent runners with QSI sound decoders and they are highly detailed. A quick Google search revealed normal prices between $369 and $450 US dollars for this engine.

I just checked out Ebay and tried to find the Proto Heritage 2-8-8-2 that you found. All I came up with was six of them with different road names and numbers being sold out of Ohio. The price is $329 and that is a “Buy It Now” price with a shipping cost of $12.

I couldn’t find the ones you are referring to. However, I have a few Proto diesels that run very good. I understand the Proto Heritage steam engines are very good quality also. If you can get one NIB for $135. I’d buy it in a heartbeat!

I’ve heard these locomotives don’t pull as well as some but are otherwise top-notch models.

Up to $145 now but has 3 days to go, $276 cheapest buy it now. The one you were talking about was pulled by ebay, not the seller so it was likely tainted in some way or another ( any insiders at ebay here ).

Hi There;

Thanx for your responces guys. I am waiting for a reply from seller re shipping charges. After much whining & pleading the CFO said I could buy one.[:D][:D]

Tom

Where was the seller from???

Hi There;

The seller is from England.

Tom

I have one and it runs like a champ. My minimum radius is 36" and there is no grade or helix’s. Right now I have 35 assorted freight cars being pulled by it and it doesn’t slip. I got mine for about 170.00
I need to snatch up another one. Now mine is DCC but does not have sound.

This is true straight out of the box. I have not run any of mine enough (yet) to find out if there is some coating from the factor that make them a little slick. Only time will tell. I still love the locomotives and highly recommend them.

Are you sure it was 130 US dollars and not about the British Pound? You probably would have to clear customs with that engine.

They run good, but lack pulling power. The PCM’s Y6b is a much beefier engine in the pulling department.
