Proto SD45 Spur gear issue and Walthers response.

I purchased 5 Proto 2000 SD45’s in CP colours (really SD40M-2’s) a month or so a go and finally decided to install decoders in them. I got them all installed and they all ran flawlessly except for one. One of them had a slight hesitation and surge to it and it made a loud clicking noise. I narrowed the problem down to the rear truck, I could see that sometimes the wheels would turn and some times they wouldn’t. I took the truck apart and discovered it had a bad spur gear. One of the teeth was damaged and it was binding up the gear causing it to not turn. I gave Walthers a call and after talking to a customer service rep about the problem my new spur gears are on their way and free of charge. I’m sure that this was an isolated problem but I figured I would post about it just in case somebody else has the same problem and couldn’t figure it out. And what about Walthers sending me free parts with free shipping.[tup]

They have been super about fixing problems , That’s why they get alot of my buisness in spite of their prices.

Five? FIVE!? Man, that’s the entire SD40M-2 compliment of western Canada! I envy you…

I got them at a great price. Canadian Hobby Craft did them and only made 100 of each road number.
