can any one help with station and track information for a station mainly for Santa Fe that was shared by UP or others on thru to Chicargo about early 50’s not to fussed on location but more roads the better, thanks
Suppose we start with towns where Santa Fe and Union Pacific connected/ both served (whether or not they shared station)
Abilene, KS
Barstow, Cal.
Colton, Cal.
Concordia, KS
Daggett, Cal.
Denver, Col.
Kansas City, MO (lots of railroads shared station)
Lansing, KS
Los Angeles, Cal. (big union station serving ATSF, UP and SP)
Los Angeles (Hobart)
Los Angeles Harbor
McPherson, KS (there I know they had separate stations. Lines cross.)
Miltonvale, KS
Minneapolis, KS
Riverside, Cal
St. Joseph, MO
Salina, KS
San Bernandino, Cal
Solomon, KS
Topeka, KS
These are from the April 1954 Official Railway Equipment Register which lists connection points primarily for freight purposes-- but it is a good starting point to get a list of places both railroads are together. I also happen to remember that Fullerton, Cal, first station out of Los Angeles on the way to San Diego via Amtrak, has a Santa Fe and Union Pacific station almost next to each other.
Are you looking for something that is on the Santa Fe mainline route between Chicago and Los Angeles, either Super Chief route via Raton Pass or southern route via Belen Cutoff?
Abilene Kansas is on ATSF branch to Superior, not mainline. I can only find a couple of pictures.
Barstow, California: major passenger station in small city, served by major Santa Fe and UP trains going to Los Angeles. 1936 aerial photo in Warbonnet 4th quarter 2003 p.17; 25 or 30 published photographs in my bibliography; I have a blueprint of the yard tracks but it is about 3 or 4 feet long, don’t know how I could scan it.
Colton, California: California mission style depot, pix & scale drawings, Santa Fe Modeler 3Q88 p.14; station track and ground diagram Santa Fe ModelerSepOct81 p.5ff
Daggett, Cal. can’t find much, small town enroute
Denver, Col. An end-of-the-line point for Santa Fe, no through ATSF trains. A handful of published pictures in my bibliography, no station plans or trackage plats.
Kansas City, MO.
KANSAS CITY, MO
“Kansas City Today” Railfan & RR June2001 p.28-44
Kansas City rail route map Railfan & RR June2001 p.42
Thanks that information is great ,the Kansas city MO sounds pretty good .A main line with Super Chief would be ideal with some freight movement too, have you seen any HO lay out depicting this station?are there any track plans readily availible,It was Gary Hoover’s layout in oct 05 model railroader with Chicago Dearborn and Raton Pass which has givin me the idea for my project .
Thanks again
