Proto USRA 0-8-0 conversion into 2-8-0

I stumbled upon this forum just now in school. The other night, I went through with converting my Proto 2k 0-8-0 into a 2-8-0. I used a rather crude method of mounting a plastic rod to the front of cylinder saddle, placing the leading truck over the rod and adding a little cap to the rod to keep the truck into place. I had to cut away at the chassis a bit to make more room for the truck as well as extending the frame like countless others have said. The truck is fairly sturdy and is able to comfortably operate on 18 inch radius curves. I will post mote photos when I get home but so far, I’m loving the project!

Nice Picture @Benji_Car

And Welcome Aboard!

Wanted to provide an update on my 0-8-0 - 2-8-0 conversion. Since my last post, I’ve added a cab, number plate, extended coal bunker and painted the drivers and valve gear. The locomotive runs quite well but cannot negotiate my 18 inch radius curves comfortably. I will be taking it to my club today for testing. Hopefully all should go well. It’s also worth mentioning that this locomotive has its original sound decoder (QSI Quantum) that somehow hasn’t shit the bed yet. Probably gonna be first in line for a decoder replacement when my wallet agrees (or not). Probably gonna get either Econami or WOW and Scale Sound speakers.
