That’s not the way real flat-switched yards work. Real railroads don’t cherry-pick a single car out of a yard track, except very rarely in a line-stop situation.

Classification yards don’t work that way but industrial support yards do.

But those are not classification yards that build freight trains.

Yeah, Dave, that was my point. He’s building a classification yard. Based on his comment that it was an era when the stockyard was still there, I’m pretty sure SIT wasn’t in use.
