Anyone know if any company has released a Providence and Worchester line? For seven years these puppies have chuffed past my house and before I move away (which I don’t plan to soon!) I would love to get a model for nostalga (spelling?). I doubt it, but I was just wondering.
I’m actually a real steam fan, but you know, these guys are like family now. My son has never lived away from them…
There are many companies that make O gauge trains. Have you tried; Williams, MTH, Weaver, Atlas O, Lionel, or even Third Rail Brass(a bit expensive for the average person). You can try ebay, however it is buyer beware on ebay. My ebay experiances are
medium to good, bought an O gauge caboose somebody listed as H.O., no problem with me as I model both, also bought a Williams GP-9 diesel for $65.00 it runs good but no horn and no reverse lock-out switch.

I have P&W boxcars by both Lionel and MTH. The Lionel is a little 10 inch all plastic from the 70’s (General Mills, I think) and the MTH is a Premier line 50’ box, a beautiful car! I’ve seen a P&W flat in some catalog but not any engines or cabooses. You could always find someone to paint one fro you as I did twice. There was a fireman from Peabcdy who painted 2 engines for me because I couldn’t find the roads I wanted. I found him through a train store by asking about painting. It cost me $50 for each engine. He did a great job,well worth it!
phillyreading - That’s cool! It’s nice to know there is some P&W out there even if there are no Loco’s (yet?). I was thinking of maybe making it my first painting project, but that is way down the line…I’m still wiring my benchwork and collecting the track I need to have an operating layout! I’m sure paying someone $50 would be more than worth it for a quality job. Better than I could do at this point I am sure.
Can any diesel fan guess what loco those are pictured above? As I said, I’m a steam fan. I’m sure with a little research I could figure it out, but I bet most diesel fans would know right off the bat. Anyone?

Here is another photo to help you identify these units. On second thought they are probably not the same. Different number series and the lights between the number boards are arranged differently.

Well, judging from the photo HopperSJ posted, those units are Dash8’s, and they are unique bcause they do not have the “Safety Cab” like most other diesels. I know Conrail purchased a lot of these, without the “Safety Cab” style control center. As a matter of fact, when I was coming home from Patio funiture shopping with my parents today, I saw a Conrail Dash8 like the photo. It was on the lead of a very looooooooonnnnnng coal drag, all the hoppers were loaded. It was a patched unit, meaning that NS only put its markings on the unit, but have not repainted it yet. There were 2 other units with it. The spot I saw it was located under the 2 track mainline, which happens to be the NS’s other main. The line it was on was also 2 tracks.
The photo that Jefelectric provided shows units being either U25’s or U28’s.

Atlas has released Providence & Worchester Locomotives and Rolling Stock. Check the Atlas O site in you are looking for historically accurate models.
There is a nice O Scale Boxcar in the MTH Premier Line.

The Atlas Providence & Worcester Dash 8-39 #3901 is part # 7844-1. Last time I saw one advertised it was at AM Hobbies at $419.95 a long time ago.
MTH has three RailKing Scale size all listed in their 2005 volume 1 catalogue:
30-26040 P&W GP7 w/horn & bell list $199.95
30-26041 P&W GP7 w/proto 2 list $299.95
30-26043 P&W GP7 n0npowered list $129.00
The scale size MTH P&W Box Car is # 93168 and was available in 2004.
The traditional size Lionel P&W Box Car is # 9415 and was available in 1979.
The TCA made a K-LINE P&W Flat Car with a Bangor and Aroostook Railroad
trailer load in 1998.
The MTH P&W GP7’s to my knowlege have not been shipped yet, but if you want one I
would strongly suggest you talk to your dealer soon as P&W items appear to go FAST.
Justrains is a very good dealer and I have talked with them.
The cars you will have to realy look for at train shows as not a lot were produced I think.
The P&W has offices in Worcester MA. and it is interesting that they run over the Hellgate bridge in NY.

Check with JusTrains or Norm’s O Scale to see if you can purchase a box of 4 of the ATLAS O 3-Rail 89’-4" Long Intermodal Flat Cars in the P&W Scheme. The Atlas O 89’-4" Flat Cars are a bargin if you buy a set of 4. Yes, they will require O72 Track and Switches, so buy them if you need them.
For some reason the new MTH Premier DASH 8 Series 40B-8 Locomotive is not being made in the P&W Scheme for the initial run. They decided to choose CNW, which only had 40C-8 Locomotives. You will have to lobby MTH to produce the DASH 8 for P&W.

I’ll look into it. I’ve really been drooling the last few days as they rolled by my offiice and my home (just a quarter mile apart down the line). I think it is a spring thing. Trains seem much more inviting whent he weather is nice. Open windows, light breeze blowing, playing catch with my son, hearing the horn and rumble. . .[:o)]
