I remember reading a track planning book that had a plan, I believe it was in S scale, for a layout that was based on PRR. The plan was primarily designed for running electric locomotives. Problem is I can not remember where it was and have not been able to find that plan since. Does anyone here have an idea where I might find it?
A suggestion: Google…‘‘S-scale PRR Model Railroad Electric’s track plan Images’’. There are many pic’s of track plans, but only You know which one You want, so You’ll have to look at them…might get lucky and find it.
Back in the 50s MR had one based on zoo tower that was huge. It had so many routes no matter how hard I tried I couldn’t get back to the starting point.
I found the article in the MR archive but unfortunately it was not what I was looking for. I am thinking it might have been a John Armstrong plan… not sure. If anyone has any other ideas or suggestions where to look it would be appreciated. I’ve been racking my brain over this for about a year now with no luck.
There are a couple of plans in John Armstrong’s Kalmbach books that might be what you are looking for. John Armstrong on Creative Layout Design (1978) includes an O scale PRR layout focused on passenger and electric operation (with a bit of freight) called the Schuylkill Division. This layout was also featured in the later book The Classic Layout Designs of John Armstrong (2001).
There are two more layouts in 20 Custom Designed Track Plans (1994) which might be candidates. One is the O scale Eclectic Electric Lines, the other is the Pennsylvania Railroad Middle and Pittsburgh Divisions in S scale (although the latter does not focus on areas that were electrified on the PRR).
