WHEN is someone going to produce a PRR S2 steam, turbine. Aside from some brass models there’s nada. I know it wasn’t a commercial success for PRR but it sure was for Lionel Trains and that model was so far off scale it made it look like a switcher! If manufactured in HO to scale it would finally be seen in all its glory. A magnificent piece of machinery! A sure seller!
Let’s go Bachmann, Athearn, BLI, Proto 2000 and the rest of you out there.
There is no competition for this famous locomotive – yet!
It would be interesting to see a decent HO model of this, but don’t hold your breath. There was only ONE of them. And it didn’t run over the entire PRR system, so not even a majority of PRR modelers would end up buying one. Thus, small run brass.
Yeah, don’t get your hopes up. I love them too, but being as there was 1 and it was scrapped soon after it’s debut, the chances are almost 1,000,000 to one.
Lionel actually made a scale turbine about 12 years ago. It was an excellent model, and I guess that they though they would play off the sucess of their(at the time) nearly 50 year old miniature model, but it didn’t sell too well. One of the big problems is that it’s huge(especially compared to the traditional 671/681/682/2020), and too big for most layouts. I believe that the O scale model is upwards of 30" long(a scale Big Boy is 36", for comparison), and has a very large rigid wheelbase.
