Latest project off the workbench.
Since I’m already using a stand in tender, I figured why not a stand in tool car?
It started life as a Con-Cor Amtrak MHC,
some paint, decals, body mounted couplers, and “Ala Peanut Butter Sandwiches!” the UP tool car for my Challenger excursion train is born.
Here’s an old trick, try scoring lines around the doors and hinges with a fine pointed x-acto knife, this gives a shadow line as if the doors do open, it works like a charm.
Real car is a UP Mail Express 60’ car equipped with highspeed passenger trucks and centered plug doors
very similar lines/size to MHC, except MHC has one large plug door
Also most DD boxcars have offset doors
the tender is a ConCor Veranda Turbine Tender which is way too big, and the wrong shape, but it’s the only thing close, besides brass, the correct tender was from the 8500hp three unit turbine. Scale wire railing on top of the tender would be too fragile for my world.
