Typical government snafu! One hand doesn’t know what the other has given away or is doing and the railroads , in this case, are left holding the bag. No wonder our country is in such a sad state. Can we get a new Congress and Administration? Soon?
They are not kidding. Welcome to the country of NIMBY, special interests, eco-terrorists, and assorted others opposed to free market capitalism. The only thing I don’t like about PTC is that it is being mandated by big socialist government without being properly tested first. Navajo and Apache may prove to be the least of the problems. On the other hand, these tribes could prove to be a blessing because it will buy the railroads some precious time to test all of this untested PTC electronics. That is, provided Obama doesn’t decide to throw the tribes under his bus for being in the way of a socialist mandate.
The government mandated PTC control while giving the Indian tribes control of land. Let the feds make it work.
Ah yes, takes me back it does, Where’s Marshal Dillon, he and Miss Kitty will chase RGIII an all them thieving Redskins off, so we can put up our antennas!
Take that Bob Costas!
You’ve got to be kidding!
Make them look like trees or totem poles or Saguaros etc.

It is amazing how the government gets in its own way so often. They are not thinking about the consequences of the overlapping and contradicting nature of many of their directives and(often unfunded) mandates. In the end, they will anger the indigenous peoples and thus trigger a string of lawsuits that will bring PTC (and other projects) to a halt for decades while this mess slowly travels through the courts.
No proofreaders since DPM died. Check the long lists of ‘errata’ each month in the hard copy. Even R&R gets “Ridgway, CO” and “Westchester, NY” right, now.
Who is proof reading these news stories? Several today have had mistakes with this one being the worst.
The absurdity of the federal gov’t–make one short-sighted, reactionary law without considering all the impacts dictated by other laws and regulations.
I have been “entertained” by the difficulty railroads have obtaining radio spectrum in busy places (i.e., Chicago), with the FCC making it difficult or impossible for the railroads to get the necessary bandwidth.
Basically, it is impossible to follow the law here…

This is stupid.
It’s time for Trains Newswire to be moderated. It is becoming a political soap box more than a discussion of actual railroad operations.
Meeks: just what News Wire need s! Vermont-type Liberal/Socialist/Progressive/Communist “moderation”, ala Gannett’s Burlington ‘Free Press’!
Have a Certified Tribal-Member Archeologist at every antenna dig site. They would both be very busy, but evidence of early cannibalism, by the Land-Bridgers, could remain hidden.
Bla! Bla! Bla! Goosie; there you go with your socialist diatribe. Your flatulence is getting rather stale; don’t you agree?
