The best information I’ve seen so far on the status of the project is this presentation from UP’s Dave Orrell to the 2013 National Highway-Rail Grade Crossing Safety Training Conference: http://static.tti.tamu.edu/conferences/rail13/presentations/bo6-hsr-program-updates/orrell.pdf
The only former Illinois governor still incarcerated in serving his time in Colorado.
Glad to see they are having a hearing in Joliet so all the ex-IL governors can attend.
Does anyone really know where the state of IL is with this project? The article states that the Joliet - Granite City segment will be upgraded to 110 mph, but from what I have heard and seen, there is only a single 20 mile stretch where UP allows Amtrak to run at 110. I have also heard that the UP is waiting on a more reliable PTC program before they allow for faster running over the entire route.
What is the status of the new cars being built for the MW corridors? Are they being constructed yet or has the money not been appropriated?
Any information would be appreciated.
Thanks
Amplification to my previous posting - Amtrak runs through Granite City and East St Louis, but doesn’t serve either. The GM&O, when it operated the Chicago-St Louis service, served Granite City but not East St Louis. Also, Alton as the only suburban stop in Metro East should be a site for the hearings.

Having been a resident of St Louis Metro East (Monroe, St Clair, and Madison counties in Illinois) I’m surprised that IDOT isn’t having a hearing on-line, say in Granite City, like they are in Chicagoland. East St Louis isn’t on-line and, sad to say, not a nice place to be at 500PM-730PM on any evening.
