Those Garratts were funny-looking things but they got the job done. Nothing succeeds like success.
I spent many happy hours watching the Narrow Gauge Garratt’s as they pulled the empty sugar cane and timber wagons up the fairly steep gradient’s and then to watch the same Loco’s returning with loaded timber mine props on board on their down hill run back to Port Shepstone… Amazing little Loco’s and am glad they will get another lease on life in Australia.
Well worth saving! Thanks to the Aussies!
I once read an article somewhere (Trains?) where the author wondered what it would have been like if Garratts had ever made it up to the scale of a Big Boy.
‘What if’ indeed.
Have been to PBR before but now am going back to see these small gauge wonders . Great little railway well worth the visit anytime .
