Pullman Porter book author interview on NPR's "Fresh Air" program today

Just a “heads-up” for those of you who may be interested in this:

The “blurb” this morning on 1 of my local National Public Radio (“NPR”) stations (WHYY-FM, 90.9, Philadelphia - also the “home” and “producing” station for this “Fresh Air with Terry Gross” program) was that the second part of today’s show (Friday, May 8th, 2009) would be an interview with Larry Tye, the author of the book “RISING From The RAILS - Pullman Porters and the Making of the Black Middle Class”. The show is usually 1 hour long, but this is the Spring membership drive / “Pledge Week” for WHYY, and from past experience I can’t predict exactly when that portion would air during the program anyway. Best guess is anytime from 30 minutes into the show to within about 10 minutes of the end - the last 10 minutes is usally a music or drama or film review. At the moment, the details of today’s show have not been posted - the website says that “A listing of today’s stories will be posted around 12:00 PM”, so I’ll try to update this after that occurs. In the meantime, here’s the link to the show’s website:

It would be interesting to see if anyone on the forum has any comments on the interview or the book to post here.

12:40 PM EDIT: The “Rundown View” has been posted - this will be the second segment. As before, a guess is that it will start at about :30 past the hour. Here’s the description of it:

"May 8, 2009 · In his book Rising from the Rails, journalist Larry Tye examines the social history of the African-American men who provided service to railroad passengers traveling in George Pullman’s sleeping cars.

Paul, wonderful baseball anecdote. Here’s a link to listen online.
