Pullman sleeper floor plans?

Hi all,

I’ve been working on my Ho-scale model of the San Francisco Chief, circa about 1969, and have collected a lot of different manufacturers’ equipment for it. The two cars I need more info for though, are the “Blue” series 10-3-2 sleepers (Pullman Plan 4145, I believe), and the “Valley” series 6-6-4 (plan 4099) sleepers. Does anyone have the floorplans for these online? I’ve Googled, I’ve searched at the local libraries, no luck.

Any help would be greatly appreciated! [:)]

A lot of Pullman drawings are at the Martha Briggs Newbury Library in Chicago but I do not know which ones. I would suspect that the ATSF historical society could help you out easily.

Well there are a couple of books out there that have Pullman plans, they may be out of print but you should be able to find them somewhere. I’d have to check at home for the publisher, but in the early nineties there were some oversize hardcover books on Pullman cars, one just about Pullman Palace cars, another with a listing of Pullman cars by car name. I know too there are/were some books published that describes passenger cars by railroad or groups of railroads, I remember seeing them in the flyer for Perry’s Hobbies.

Thanks for the responses, everyone. [:)]

Okay, so I have the 4099 covered now. Now I guess I’ll see what I can find for the Blue series.

Thanks!

Hi “Arjay,”

One source for “Blue”-series floor plans is “The Official Pullman-Standard Library, Volume 1, Santa Fe,” by David W. Randall, published in 1986 by Railway Production Classics. This is one of those out-of-print books that an earlier poster referred to, but it’s a terrific reference on the Santa Fe’s Pullman-Standard lightweights.

Good luck,

Andy

Andy,

MANY thanks! Now I at least know where to look. Now to find a copy of the book somewhere. I’ve already checked with the local libraries (I’m actually surprised that the Texas A&M library doesn’t have a copy), no joy.

Thanks!

Edit - Someone has copies available on Amazon. Looks like I know what I’m buying with this month’s hobby budget! [:D]
